The BBC has reported that the law could change to see more people fined for throwing litter from vehicles, with the fine going to the owner of the vehicle regardless of who has thrown the litter.
In Cardiff alone hundreds of bags of litter are picked up by our street cleansing team every year from the side of slip roads and motorways.
Close to Cardiff City stadium, workers picked up piles of empty cans, plastic bottles and coffee cups, in a 20-minute clean-up costing about £4,000. The cost is so high due to strict safety procedures and hire and use of special buffer vehicles to stop traffic hitting the workers.
Since March 2014 Cardiff Council has issued 531 fines and pursued 10 prosecutions for the offence of roadside littering. nt
