Changes to how we put out our household recycling every week can help to:
Improve the quality of material collected
Cardiff Council trialled a separate recycling scheme with 10,000 properties across the city. The percentage of incorrect items in recycling bags reduced from 30% to 7%.
Reduce single-use plastics
As the whole of Cardiff separates its recyclables, we will save 24 million single use plastic bags a year.
Counteract climate change
By improving the quality of recycling, more of it will remain in the UK to be recycled, instead of being sent abroad. This helps to reduce our carbon emissions.
Increase our recycling rates
Our recycling performance is around 62% – which is under the Welsh Government target of 70%. The changes will help increase the rate.
