Ever wondered what happens to your general waste once we have picked it up? Here in Cardiff we send all your general waste to an incinerator (or Energy Recovery Facility) in Splott, which is run by a company called Viridor.
This Energy Recovery Facility in Trident Park has been used by The City of Cardiff Council since 2014, meaning that none of your waste has gone to landfill since then. In total the facility can handle up to 350,000 tonnes of general waste every year!
Here they burn all your non-recycled waste, and use the heat energy that is created to power 50,000 households.
If you would like to learn more about what happens in the Energy Recovery Facility, you can organise a school trip to the state-of-the-art Visitor Centre. Information about booking can be found here.
