When looking at the amount of litter in our streets it can sometimes feel like a bit of a daunting challenge to clear up it all up. That is why I am sure many of you will be glad to hear that group litter picking activities are starting up again across Cardiff! Group litter picking can be a great opportunity to meet your community and get in some time helping to Keep Cardiff Tidy.
Group Litter Picking
All our Litter Champions do an amazing job helping to clean up their local environment and group events offer up the opportunity for everyone to meet other like minded people. Often when starting litter picking people may not know where to start, but by holding group activities we can help people get used to the dos and don’ts of safe litter picking. It also allows us to cover a wider area of land and pick up loads of litter! Which is not only great for the community but also the wildlife that lives there. They create a great community spirit and help encourage others to get involved and be active in their local communities!
Nationwide Litter Picking Events
There are annual nationwide litter picking events that everyone can get involved with as well. Keep Wales Tidy (KWT) Spring Clean Cymru has just taken place recently and I am sure that many of our Litter Champions will have been involved in all the events across the city! It is an annual event delivered in collaboration with Keep Britain Tidy and Keep Scotland Beautiful. Their aim this year was calling on everyone in the UK to get outside, pick up litter and help us collectively walk a million miles! But don’t worry if you missed out on this year’s event as not only is it annual but there are always more opportunities to get involved in nationwide campaigns.
How can you get involved?
If you are interested in getting involved with one of Cardiff’s local litter picking groups follow this link and you will be able to see what groups are in your area!
All litter picks are being run to the guidance of the current Covid restrictions to ensure everyone’s safety. This does mean that numbers at events are likely to be limited and that you may need to book to join in.
If you can’t see a local group for your area, you could always look into setting one up yourself! If you would like more information on how you can do this get in contact with us or Keep Wales Tidy!
There is always the option of becoming a Litter Champion as well if you don’t feel ready for a group event yet! Just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how you can sign up.
